W tej niezwykłej publikacji można przeczytać wspomnienia byłej nadzorczyni obozu Ravensbrück - Annemarie Grete Neumann oraz  byłych więźniarek, Hildegard Schäfer i Marianne Horn. 

Chciałabym zachęcić do zakupienia tej książki i zapoznania się z tymi wyjątkowymi relacjami, pochodzącymi od naocznych świadków - w przededniu 80. rocznicy wyzwolenia obozu Ravensbrück niech te wspominania będą dla nas pamięcią, przestrogą i wskazówką, aby pozostawić ten świat nieco lepszym, niż go zastaliśmy.

About this book project:

 

The main part of this book project, however, I have to thank my former colleague Evelyn Schulz. She worked with me in the research department of the VVN-BdA. She now lives in Luxembourg and works as a farmer. Together, we conducted the interviews presented in the book, which we have compiled. What has not been published is an interview with Mrs. Naumann's daughter, which I conducted in 2017.

 

I interviewed Sister Elise B. in Switzerland and Anni Naumann's daughter myself. Unfortunately, I was never able to meet Mrs. Naumann in person. 

 

The way it was found: Mrs. Schulz discovered a 1943 photograph taken by a Russian soldier during the occupation. He had apparently found it, along with others, in one of the SS guard houses. Most of the photos were given to the Ravensbrück Memorial Library, but some were also sent to us at the Research Service. The reason we did not release all the photos to the public was that they were subject to a protection period and, among other things, many of them showed unidentified persons. The name Anni Grete Naumann was written on the back. Now that we had a name, we were able to identify Mrs. Naumann more precisely using the Fürstenberg Sparkasse list, where she was listed under the number 72864. Through her research, Mrs. Schulz then obtained relevant information about Naumann, who lived in the Rhineland, from the Social Insurance Administration. Mrs. Schulz was thus capable of verifying thus able to  that she was the female guard listed in the file material, the defendant's file, kept by the State Archives of North Rhine-Westphalia. There were many reasons why she was never clearly identified: her first name was missing, she had lived abroad, and she had received help from her brother, who worked in the influential administrative apparatus.

 

The question of the extent to which Annemarie Grete Naumann was involved in the extermination campaigns from January 1945 to mid-February 1945 therefore remains open to this day. Concentration camp survivor Irma Trksak, whom I interviewed in Vienna in March 2009, reported that Naumann was very vain and reserved and tended to remain in the background. Naumann always carried a small mirror with her so she could fix her hair from time to time. According to rumours, she and the prisoner Vera Salvequart mixed strychnine into honey bread when prisoners refused Salvequart's injections. Irma Trksak stated that she complimented her when she came out of the hairdressing salon. This enabled Trksak to obtain important information from her about certain plans being made by the SS.

Wer oder was inspiriert dich zum Schreiben?

Es ist eine großartige und zugleich spannende Aufgabe, längst vergessene oder angestaubte

Akten ans Tageslicht zu bringen und ihnen durch einen gut geschriebenen Text neues Leben

einzuhauchen.

Wird es ein weiteres Buch geben?

Weitere Bücher zum Thema werden folgen. Mein Anliegen ist es, einen wesentlichen Beitrag

zur Erinnerungskultur zu leisten, um die Erinnerung an die Opfer wachzuhalten.

Welches Buch sollte deiner Meinung nach jede:r gelesen haben?

Es ist schwierig, einen Favoriten zu benennen, da jeder Autor, der sich intensiv mit dem

Thema Holocaust befasst, einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Geschichte leistet. Von zentraler

Bedeutung ist, dass die Bücher so greifbar sind, dass Geschichte als Bereicherung

empfunden wird. Aber auch Bücher aus anderen Genres leisten einen wertvollen Beitrag zum

Zeitgeschehen.

Wie würden dich deine Freund:innen beschreiben?

Schwierige Frage, dazu müsste man direkt meine Freunde selbst befragen. Was ich aber

sagen kann, ist, dass ich meine engen Freunde als loyal, verlässlich und vor allem

liebenswürdig sehe. Und ich denke, dass sie mich auf dieselbe Weise sehen.

Was möchtest du deinen Leser:innen mit auf den Weg geben?

Ein Buch ist immer eine Bereicherung, da es von einem Menschen stammt, der nicht nur

etwas vermitteln, sondern auch seine Gedanken und Gefühle mit anderen teilen möchte.

Bücher, egal welches Genre, können eine wichtige Quelle der Reflexion, Entspannung und

Auseinandersetzung sein.

Was machst du bei einer Schreibblockade?

Ich tanke erst einmal Kraft, indem ich mit meinem Hund spazieren gehe, mich mit Familie

und Freunden treffe und mich an geselligen Abenden austausche. Auch nehme ich mir Zeit

für mich, um nachzudenken. Dabei kommt es vor, dass ich in einem fast fertigen Manuskript

noch etwas ergänze oder abändere. Ich denke, das ist ein ganz natürlicher Bestandteil des

kreativen Prozesses, den jeder Autor durchläuft, der mit Leib und Seele dabei ist.

Who or what inspires you to write?

It is a wonderful and exciting task to bring long-forgotten or dusty files back into the light of day and breathe new life into them with a well-written text.

Will there be another book?

Further books on the subject will follow. The aim of my work is to contribute significantly to the culture of remembrance and keep the memory of the victims alive.

Which book do you think everyone should read?

It's difficult to name a particular favorite, as every author who deals intensively with the subject of the Holocaust contributes significantly to history. It's crucial that the books be accessible enough to make history feel like an enrichment. But books from other genres also make a valuable contribution to current events.

How would your friends describe you?

That's a difficult question; you'd have to ask my friends themselves. But what I can say is that I see my close friends as loyal, reliable and, above all, kind. And I think they see me in the same way.

What would you like to leave your readers with?

A book is always enriching because it comes from someone who not only wants to convey something, but also wants to share their thoughts and feelings with others. Books, regardless of genre, can be an important source of reflection, relaxation, and discussion.

What do you do when you have writer's block?

First, I recharge my energy by walking with my dog, spending time with family and friends, and socializing in the evenings. I also take time for myself to reflect. Occasionally, I add or change something in a manuscript that is almost finished. I think this is a natural part of the creative process that every author who puts their heart and soul into their work goes through.
